AGENCY WINS SIX OF STATES
TOP TOURISM AWARDS
TDSM, a full-service destination
marketing agency based located in Ottawa, Ill.,
earned six awards at the recent Illinois Governors
Conference on Tourism. A campaign created for
the Galena & Jo Daviess County CVB won best
single media advertising and pubic relations
campaign in the state. This is the fourth consecutive
year that TDSM has received awards at the annual
state conference on tourism. In total TDSMs
marketing and advertising services have won
sixteen awards for their outstanding contribution
to the marketing of Illinois tourism destinations.
TDSM competed against entries
from throughout the state in both divisions
of this years competition. Division A
represents those clients with an annual budget
under $500,000, while Division B represents
clients operating with a budget of more than
$500,000.
The awards earned by TDSMs
marketing and advertising services were:
- Division A
Best Premium. Client: Ottawa Visitors
Center. The direct mail campaign contained
a high quality poster and real glass marble
as depicted in one of Ottawas "Brush
With History" mural program. The campaign
was developed to attract travel writers and
editors to cover Ottawas expanding mural
program. The win marked Ottawas fourth
consecutive year to receive an award for work
created by TDSM.
- Division B
Newspaper Advertising. Client: Galena
& Jo Daviess County Convention and Visitors
Bureau. "Gallery of Great Escapes"
was an 8-page mini-magazine insert attached
to a full-page advertisement in the Chicago
Tribune Sunday Magazine. The campaign featured
original watercolors by local artists and
simple leisure travel messages to showcase
Galena's unique tourism product.
- Division B
Magazine Advertising. Client: Galena &
Jo Daviess County CVB. Two ads from the "GalenaScapes"
campaign featuring original watercolors and
simple leisure travel messages were used to
depict the regions unique visitors
experience in Oprah Winfreys "O
Magazine."
- Division B - Best
Citywide Promotional Campaign. Client:
Galena & Jo Daviess County CVB. "Vintage
Recreation" one of the original watercolor
ad concepts from TDSMs "GalenaScapes"
campaign for the Galena & Jo Daviess County
CVB was expanded to include promotional campaigns
for the regions unique products including
labels for the destinations award-winning
winery, Galena Wine & Cellars.
- Division B
Research. Client: Galena & Jo Daviess
County CVB. TDSM utilized qualitative and
quanitative research methods in the development
of Galenas new themeline, "Vintage
Charm, Contemporary Spirit."
- Division B - Advertising
and/or PR Campaign Single Media. Client:
Galena/Jo Daviess
County CVB. The "GalenaScapes" campaign
of original watercolors and simple leisure
travel messages was used to promote the Galena
& Jo Daviess County region in newspapers
throughout the Midwest.

TDSM principals
Robin Malpass and Lee Ann Havenga attribute
their success to their collective expertise
in the fields of marketing and design. Each
own and operate separate businesses. Havenga
started Tandem Design, a graphic design firm,
in 1995, while Malpass founded Strategic Marketing,
an advertising, marketing and public relations
firm, in 1996.
Together,
Malpass and Havenga formed TDSM to exclusively
represent destination and attraction clients.
TDSM is a full-service agency specializing
in destination marketing and advertising services.
